U2 to play third Dublin concert

Supergroup U2 is to play a third concert at Croke Park in Dublin this June, it was announced today. The band added the new date to their Vertigo world tour following an agreement with the GAA, who own the massive sporting venue. They will now play Croke Park on Monday, June 27 as well as Friday, June 24 and Saturday, June 25.

The additional date was negotiated due to phenomenal demand and means that the group will now play to around a quarter of a million people in their home town.Around 160,000 tickets for the other two shows sold out within hours of going on sale.Details of when the tickets for the third show will go on sale have not yet been finalised but a statement is expected soon.

The news of the triple Dublin date was announced on the band's website - wwwU2.com - today by manager Paul McGuinness. It follows ongoing denials from the promoters MCD that the band was planning another gig in the Republic's capital.Mr McGuinness said:

"We have resolved the issues with the GAA and are delighted to announce that U2 will play a third show at Croke Park on Monday, June 27. The band is very excited about playing to a quarter of a million people in their own town and we're going to do all we can to ensure that tickets are distributed fairly."

Even with the extra 80,000 tickets we know there will be some disappointed fans, such is the demand.

"We are working on the details of getting the tickets on sale and will announce it as soon as we can."

No support act has been lined up yet for the new show.Bono, Larry Mullen, The Edge and Adam Clayton are currently on tour in the US and will kick off the European leg of their summer tour in Brussels on June 10.
